Why we decided to flip our classrooms.
We'll start with an explanation of what a 'flipped' classroom is. In a traditional classroom, the teacher delivers the lesson to students during the class period and then students complete some kind of homework assignment to practice the lesson outside of class.
In a flipped classroom, the student's homework will be watching recorded lessons that the teacher created, walking them through a lesson. The students will watch and take notes on the material covered in lesson. Then in class, the teacher can review the lesson from the previous night's video and spend the majority of the class time giving students the chance to practice and apply the skills from the lesson. In short, they are receiving the direct instruction outside of the class period and doing the practice in the classroom where the teacher can be there to help and assist them where they are struggling. Please watch the video on the right to hear Mrs King and Mr McKenzie discuss the benefits of flipping their classrooms. |
